Output overload protection

Output overload protection is intended to protect the power supply circuit.
Typical output voltage and output current
characteristics of output overload protection.
If the output is overloaded, oscillation will stop.
After oscillation stops, some types will restart,
while others will not.
An output constant current function has been added
to the output overload characteristics above.
Often used in chargers and LED lighting.
Devices that do not stop oscillating
when the output is overloaded have
this output overload characteristic.
It measures the primary side current,
not the secondary side output current.
When the drain current exceeds a threshold,
oscillation stops or the MOSFET is turned off.
A large surge current can occur
when a MOSFET is turned on.
If the large surge current exceeds
the MOSFET drain current threshold,
oscillation will stop.
To prevent this, most ICs have a blanking time.
